The number one question I always get is, "What is Allergy Toothpaste?"
Allergy Toothpaste is the common name for Oral Mucosal Immunotherapy or OMIT. Allergy Toothpaste contains allergy proteins that get picked up by Langerhans Cells in your cheeks and gums while brushing. These cells then bring these proteins into your lymph system where your body learns that these allergens are not harmful. Over time, your body learns to stop reacting.
Scientifically, allergy toothpaste is called Oral Mucosal Immunotherapy or OMIT. OMIT is a subcategory of Sublingual Immunotherapy or SLIT. The common name for SLIT is Allergy Drops and the common name for OMIT is Allergy Toothpaste.
